Limehouse

Escarpment hamlet, kilns and the Bruce Trail

Limehouse is a tiny hamlet on the eastern edge of Halton Hills, and for such a small place it holds an enormous place in the imagination of everyone who hikes here. The name comes from the lime industry that once thrived on this spot, and the old kilns still stand in the conservation area, moss-covered and quietly impressive.

This is nature-first living. The Limehouse Conservation Area, managed by Credit Valley Conservation, covers a pocket of the Niagara Escarpment with forested trails, dramatic rock crevices and a section of the Bruce Trail passing right through. The famous 'Hole in the Wall' rock cleft draws walkers from all over, yet the hamlet itself stays wonderfully peaceful.

Homes here tend to spread along country roads with plenty of green between neighbours. It is the choice for people who want a real sense of countryside, with Georgetown, Acton and Guelph all a short drive away.

Limehouse, Ontario

Part of Halton Hills, and one of the communities I know best.

Inside Limehouse

The pockets that give it its character.

Every community is really a handful of smaller places, each with its own feel. Here is the lay of the land, the way I'd describe it to a friend.

The hamlet core

A small cluster of homes and community buildings at the crossroads, close to the conservation area parking and trailheads. Living here puts the forest at the end of your street.

The country roads and acreages

Most of the housing around Limehouse sits along quiet rural roads: century farmhouses, newer country builds on generous lots, and neighbours who wave. This is a place where you can hear the wind in the trees.

The escarpment edge

Properties that back onto the escarpment and the conservation land enjoy the best of it: forest views, trails through the ravine and a sense of being on a permanent countryside retreat.
