Glen Williams

The artist village on the Credit

Glen Williams is a tiny hamlet with an outsized personality. It sits in the valley of the Credit River where old stone mills stand beside tumbling water, and over the years it has quietly become one of the most loved artist villages in the region.

Williams Mill, the historic mill at the heart of the village, now holds working studios where artists create, show and teach. Galleries, heritage homes and the river all sit within a short walk of each other, and the pace of life here is gentle by design.

People often discover Glen Williams on a weekend visit and fall for it completely. If you want the feeling of a small creative community set deep in the countryside, this is a very special place to land.

Part of Halton Hills, and one of the communities I know best.

Inside Glen Williams

The pockets that give it its character.

Every community is really a handful of smaller places, each with its own feel. Here is the lay of the land, the way I'd describe it to a friend.

The mill village along the river

The heart of Glen Williams is the cluster of heritage buildings around the mill and the mill pond. Artists' studios, a gallery or two and the sound of the water define this pocket. It feels more like a village out of a storybook than a suburb.

The heritage lanes of the hamlet

Streets of 19th-century homes climb gently away from the river, many lovingly restored. Porches, vegetable gardens and quiet lanes give the hamlet its settled, creative atmosphere.

The rural edge toward Limehouse

Leave the village in almost any direction and you are in farmland and escarpment forest within minutes. Country properties here pair village community with real countryside privacy.
